Come and browse Naples’ bookshops with us; you never know what you might find.
Libreria L’Ecolibri

Amble down Via Port’Alba, and your eyes will be drawn to the book-laden tables outside Libreria L’Ecolibri. The shop’s charming exterior is full of personality, giving way to an equally delightful interior where rare titles sit side by side.
If you have books you’re looking to get rid of, be sure to bring them along during your visit. The owner of Libreria L’Ecolibri is always open to buying used and antique covers. For those living in the Naples area, they’ll even come to your home to pick them up.
Libreria Berisio

A visit to Naples isn’t complete without stepping into Libreria Berisio, where book-lined walls command both awe and admiration. Mornings here are all about good coffee and even better literature. But once the sky darkens, arabica gives way to aperitifs and cocktails, and the atmosphere shifts with a dimly lit lounge and soft background music playing in the distance.
From the moment Libreria Berisio opens, the seats fill up fast, but usually, there’s a quick turnaround. Be sure to order a drink, as it operates as a hospitality venue; as a small thank-you, they provide complimentary snacks, a thoughtful gesture that we can all appreciate.
Libreria Dante & Descartes (Gesù Nuovo)

Right across from the Chiostro dei Frati Minori, Dante & Descartes in Gesù Nuovo truly deserves the praise it gets. Regardless of the bookstore styles you’re into, it’s hard not to be impressed. Books cover nearly every corner, some on the floor, others stacked wherever there’s space, and even on the shelves, although they don’t line up neatly. But that’s part of the charm.
There’s an abundance of covers here that welcomes every type of reader: first editions, secondhand finds, and also a solid selection of English titles. Given its central location, you might expect the prices to be inflated, but if you take the time to root around, there are some real bargains to be found.
Libreria Pironti a Port’Alba

Known locally as the go-to spot for used books that are often hard to find in the typical stores, Libreria Pironti a Port’Alba offers titles across countless subjects. While they stock plenty of modern texts, it also functions as an antiquarian bookshop, so if you’re searching for something out of print, take note.
Loaded from top to bottom, it’s easy to get lost in Libreria Pironti’s multi-level space. Wall-to-wall bookcases wrap around the interior, and soft lighting adds to the shop’s warm, inviting atmosphere.
Libreria L’Apostrofo

Another gem tucked away on the bookish avenue of Via Port’Alba that you shouldn’t miss is Libreria L’Apostrofo. This shop provides a wide variety of publications in English, German, and Italian, with a curated mix that includes graphic novels and comics for those drawn to more visual storytelling.
Situated in Naples’ historic center, it sits among several other beloved bookstores, some of which we’ve already highlighted on this list. Be sure to flip through the sale stacks outside; you might be surprised by the unexpected editions.
Libreria Dante & Descartes (Via Mezzocannone)

In a world of changing trends, Libreria Dante & Descartes in Via Mezzocannone stands as a guardian of literary authenticity in Naples. With over 5,000 covers in their inventory, you’ll find first editions, manuscripts, out-of-print texts, and autographs as part of their collection.
As the sister store to their original location near Gesù Nuovo, if you don’t find what you’re looking for here, it’s worth making the short 7-minute walk to check out the other branch.
Libreria Antiquaria La Colonnese

Come and witness the past and present under one roof at Libreria Antiquaria La Colonnese. The store strikes a balance, featuring new arrivals in some sections while also dedicating space to older titles, some dating back to the 19th century. A popular draw is their dedicated section on all things Neapolitan, which serves as an excellent resource for learning about the city’s inner workings and history.
Besides being an alluring vault of classical works, you can also pick up a variety of other items here, like tarot decks, postcards, and recipe materials.
Libreria Langella

Small yet hard to miss, thanks to its striking doors adorned with books, Libreria Langella rewards the curious with an outstanding array of volumes, with a few titles available in Neapolitan. Whether it’s age-old editions or contemporary titles, both new and secondhand, this place has it all.
It’s clear that Libreria Langella buys back a lot of books from returning customers, judging by the sheer number of covers packed inside. But their quirky floor-to-ceiling arrangement keeps it all surprisingly tidy.
Libreria Tamu

Libreria Tamu is one of Naples’ newer kids on the block and has quickly made a name for itself because of its inventory focused on modern thought. Rather than selling dusty prints, you’ll encounter thought-provoking topics and philosophical perspectives that delve into far-flung corners of the world, such as Africa and South America.
The floor plan has a contemporary edge, with bright white, neatly arranged racks and lighting that fills the room, giving the stock the recognition it deserves.
Librerie Pacifico Sas Napoli

If you’ve got a bit of time and a love for browsing, Librerie Pacifico Sas Napoli will steal your heart. It’s both tidy and a little rough around the edges, but when they dive into a topic, they do it well, especially their killer comic section. Adding the stylish charm are the outdoor cases that bring a romantic flair as they sit comfortably against graffiti-covered walls.
In terms of price points, you can’t go wrong with Librerie Pacifico Sas Napoli. But be warned: don’t be surprised if you empty your wallet fairly quickly; there’s just so much that will catch your eye.
