These 7 Beloved Books Are About to Come to Life on Screen

Whether it’s Verity, Book Lovers, or The Magician’s Nephew, these upcoming book-to-movie adaptations are already creating major buzz.

If there’s one thing readers secretly love, it’s seeing their favorite stories leap from page to screen. Book-to-movie adaptations have always been a mixed bag. Sometimes you get something truly magical (The Lord of the Rings), sometimes… less so. But the excitement never fades. There’s something irresistible about imagining beloved characters, dramatic scenes, and unforgettable plot twists brought to life.

Over the next couple of years, Hollywood is leaning heavily into bestselling novels and literary classics. From swoony romances and psychological thrillers to epic fantasy and ancient mythology, a wave of adaptations is on the way.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Sci-fi fans have been counting down the days for the movie adaptation of Project Hail Mary. The novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian, quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its mix of science, humor, and heart.

The story follows Ryland Grace, a middle-school teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. Slowly, he realizes he’s on a mission to save Earth from a cosmic catastrophe threatening the entire planet.

The film stars Ryan Gosling as Grace and is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The movie is scheduled for release in March 2026 and has already generated huge buzz among sci-fi fans.

Part of the excitement comes from the book’s unique tone. It’s equal parts thrilling science mystery and surprisingly emotional story about friendship, especially the unforgettable bond between Grace and an alien companion.

If the movie captures even half the charm of the novel, it could easily become the next great sci-fi adaptation.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Romance readers, this one’s for you.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood became a viral sensation when it was published in 2021. The book combines fake dating, academia, and plenty of awkward yet adorable moments.

The story follows Olive Smith, a PhD student who convinces her friend she’s dating someone by impulsively kissing a grumpy professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen. To keep the lie alive, the two agree to pretend they’re in a relationship until real feelings start to creep in.

The film adaptation stars Lili Reinhart as Olive and Tom Bateman as Adam, and it’s being directed by Claire Scanlon.

Considering how beloved the book is in the romance community and how perfect the fake-dating trope is for the big screen, this adaptation has all the ingredients for a cozy rom-com hit.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

The world of Panem isn’t finished with us yet.

After the success of the original series and the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Suzanne Collins expanded the universe again with Sunrise on the Reaping. This new book dives into the story of Haymitch Abernathy during the brutal 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Naturally, Hollywood didn’t waste time turning it into a film.

The movie adaptation is directed by Francis Lawrence and is set to arrive in theaters on November 20, 2026. The cast includes Joseph Zada as young Haymitch, alongside Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, and Kieran Culkin.

Fans are especially curious to see how the film portrays the infamous Quarter Quell games, which forced twice the number of tributes into the arena.

Expect intense drama, political intrigue, and the same chilling world-building that made the original franchise so addictive.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

If you enjoy dark psychological thrillers, you’ve probably heard of Verity by Colleen Hoover.

The novel follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to finish a bestselling series after the original author, Verity Crawford, becomes incapacitated.

While staying at the Crawford home, Lowen discovers a disturbing manuscript that may reveal terrifying secrets about Verity and her family.

The film adaptation stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen and Anne Hathaway as Verity. It’s directed by Michael Showalter and is expected to be released in October 2026.

Given the book’s shocking twists and unsettling atmosphere, this one could easily become the next big thriller everyone’s talking about.

The Odyssey by Homer

Sometimes the most exciting adaptations are the oldest stories.

The Odyssey, the epic poem by Homer, has inspired countless films and TV shows over the decades. But a new cinematic version is reportedly in development, promising to bring the legendary journey of Odysseus back to the big screen.

The story follows the Greek hero’s long journey home after the Trojan War, encountering monsters, gods, and magical islands along the way.

It’s the ultimate adventure story. Packed to the brim with cyclopes, sirens, shipwrecks, and divine interference. With modern filmmaking technology, filmmakers finally have the tools to portray these mythological elements in spectacular ways.

In other words, ancient mythology is about to get a blockbuster upgrade.

The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis

The world of Narnia is making a comeback.

The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis is the origin story of Narnia, showing how the magical world and its famous wardrobe came to exist.

This new adaptation is being written and directed by Greta Gerwig and will be released in theaters in November 2026 before streaming on Netflix.

The film reportedly stars Emma Mackey and Daniel Craig.

Given Gerwig’s success with Barbie and Little Women, many fans are hopeful she’ll bring a fresh, imaginative take to the beloved fantasy world.

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

Fashion lovers will, of course, remember the iconic film The Devil Wears Prada. Now, the story continues.

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger follows Andy Sachs years after she escaped Miranda Priestly’s intimidating fashion empire.

In the sequel novel, Andy is running a successful bridal magazine, but her past comes back to haunt her when Miranda reenters her life.

A film adaptation connected to the Devil Wears Prada universe is currently in development, and fans are eager to see whether familiar characters will once again appear on the big screen.

If the movie captures the same wit, fashion drama, and sharp humor as the original, it could be a stylish comeback.
