On Library Lovers’ Day we celebrate libraries, librarians, and all things bookish. Take a look at how you can celebrate your local library and love of reading.
Most people will think of February 14th and think of Valentine’s Day, the international holiday of love, tiny chubby angels, and too much chocolate. For book lovers, though, this year the 14th of February is something even more special. Move aside, significant others, it’s Library Lovers’ Day this 14th of February!
Who needs red roses or blue violets when you’ve got your newest library loan and a good, cozy book nook? Certainly not us! We’ll definitely be celebrating Library Lovers’ Day this year, and here are just some of the ways that you can do the same.
A Blind Date with a Book

Blind dates with a book have been a thing for a while now, and they’re a great chance to broaden your horizons and put the phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ into practice.
If you’ve got a group of bookish friends, you can do this by each picking a book for your friends from your local library. This will give you all the chance to pick something perfectly catered to what you know about their book taste.
Alternatively, you can always ask a librarian to pick you a book based on a few prompts. Librarians are there to help, and we’re sure they’ll love the chance to broaden your reading. You could even ask them to give you a few different suggestions so that you can have a bit of choice — or just so that you can spend even longer reading!
Dress Up as Your Favorite Characters

Normally reserved for Book Week, dressing up as your favorite book character is a great way to celebrate Library Lovers’ Day. Whether its a casual costume to get around town in, or going all out — paying homage is the perfect celebration.
If you work somewhere bookish, or if you’re a librarian yourself, why not encourage your colleagues and guests to dress up too? The more the merrier, after all! Why not get a whole group of you together to make the most of it, you could even co-ordinate a group costume like the characters from Game of Thrones or ACOTAR!
Watch a Short Film Celebrating the Importance of Libraries

Book lovers will know and understand the importance of a good library, but lots of people don’t! Libraries across the world are at risk of losing their funding, so this Library Lovers’ Day, why not watch a short film to help support a library? Even better, share the short film with your friends and family, and encourage them to watch and learn about the libraries around the world.
You could watch Meet Isaac, about NLA’s robot friend, or you could Discover Hidden Gems at the National Library of Australia.
Find Out What’s On at Your Local Library

Libraries host all sorts of fun events, and often they go unnoticed. Go out of your way this Library Lovers’ Day to find out what’s on. Check your local library’s social media, or website, or give them a call to ask.
You might find that the library has lessons on – many of them teach things like computer literacy, referencing, and other IT related things. Others might have author talks or reading groups. It’s worth a look!
Craft Some Bookmarks

Whether on your own or with some little ones, a day like Library Lovers’ Day is a great excuse to whip out the craft supplies and get creative. Why not spend some time this 14th February making some bookmarks? You can use them on a daily basis in all your books, and if you do the project with some little ones, they can take their fabulous new bookmarks to school or kindergarten with them!
Create Some Mood Boards and Posters

Perfect for teachers to use in their reading corner, or for BookTok and Book influencers to post on their socials, why not celebrate Library Lovers’ Day by picking a few of your favorite books and creating something super fun and funky?
You can use online software to create a mood board, or print items out and make a collage. You could draw and sketch your posters, and write out your favorite quotes from the stories — the opportunities are limitless.
Fill Up a Library Time Capsule

There are a couple of ways to go around this. You can opt to place in little folded sheets of paper of all your favorite books you’ve taken from the library over time, or you could make a jar full of your books for this year!
If you do the former, it’s a great thing to keep and open in years to come and see what past you loved to read. Alternatively, you could use the jar just use it for your reads this year, and take a look at the end of the 12 months.
Mindful Coloring In

Whether you’re a teacher, a casual book lover, or anything else, get yourself some pens and a comfy seat — we’re going to color in!
You can find book-related coloring pages online, suitable for all ages. Why not spend some of these Library Lovers’ Day by taking a second to stop in this busy world and getting some gorgeous coloring and crafting done? It’s been proven to help with stress and mindfulness, and is a great way to take your reading hobby out of the pages a book and into the real world!
Book Marathon

Take a trip to your local library this Library Lovers Day and pick yourself out a delicious stack of their newest or coolest books. Take as many as you think you’re likely to finish, plus some options for if you can’t pick.
You can do this alone or with a friend or on your own. All you need is a stack of books and a super cozy spot to read in. Oh, and maybe some snacks.
Make a Book-Themed Dish

To end the day, why not try and eat like your favorite characters? Make a dish themed after your favorite book, or a dish that they eat in the book. You could, for example, eat a super rich chocolate cake for Matilda, or some lembas bread for Lord of The Rings.
