Just why and how more and more people are making space for their very own home library.
Gone is the idea that libraries are dusty, stuffy, and otherwise dull rooms. The modern-day home library is now considered a sophisticated symbol of extravagant living. But then again, hasn’t a home library always been the ultimate goal for bibliophiles? Let’s take a more in-depth look at the luxurious home library trend and why it matters.
Bibliophile: A Person Who Collects or Has a Great Love of Books

Since the pandemic, there has been an increase in both the amount of time people are now spending at home and the number of people who now consider themselves book collectors and/or readers. If you’re someone who finds themselves spending more time at home and more time collecting and reading books, then a home library just makes sense.
The modern-day home library should reflect not only the homeowner’s personality but also the home’s style, with books that express the interest of the homeowner curated and displayed. A custom library can also add a certain value to the home in terms of both color and curiosity.
Double Duty

Sure, plenty of reading takes place within the walls of a home library, but homeowners are also utilizing the space as a home office or place to entertain friends and family. There are a number of ways to incorporate a library into your home while also ensuring that the space is useful.
For instance, you can merge two rooms such as the library and dining room or the library in the bedroom, or if peace and quiet aren’t how you prefer to enjoy your books, the library can double as a media room where you also keep your TV and/or record player to create your ideal reading atmosphere.
Making Space

Space, or lack thereof is often the number one reason more bibliophiles don’t have a home library. If you’re someone who is lacking in space and is unsure you can squeeze a library into your home, there are ways around that. In fact, you’re just one empty corner from a luxe in-home library; all you need is a bookshelf or two, books of course, and an option for sitting.
If you’re wanting something larger than a corner reading spot but simply don’t have the space for an entire library, a cozy book nook may be just what you need. A bay window, some extra wall space, or even a closet can easily be transformed into a luxurious spot for your books.
All in the Details

You may be wondering where the luxurious part comes into play. To that we say, custom-made bookcases that incorporate contemporary or classic details – depending on what you’re into. Features people have enjoyed incorporating into their home libraries include custom-made desks, mirrored walls, aged mirrors, brass grilles, hand-painted finishes, integrated lighting, painted latticework, family heirlooms, layered art, secret doors, and/or book ladders.
Luxurious Does Not Equal Expensive

Throughout history, having an in-home library, filled to the brim with books at that, often meant that the homeowners were wealthy. But thanks to book giveaways, public library sales, thrift stores, and used bookshops, filling up bookshelves doesn’t have to cost a fortune. And while we’re at it, a home library can absolutely be made of mismatched bookshelves found at a flea market or antique shop for pennies on the dollar. In fact, they’re probably just a fresh stain or paint job away from looking like they belong together.
Why Home Libraries Matter

Home libraries matter for a number of reasons; not only do they provide easy access to books and foster the love of reading, but access to a home library creates a personal space for learning and relaxing with a collection of books that reflect your own interests. Sharing books with friends and family can also harbor a sense of connection and create shared experiences with the people you care about most.
