Palais Liechtenstein Library

Of course, Vienna as a whole isn’t hurting for a lack of gorgeous Baroque libraries. St. Florian is one of Austria’s largest and most important Augustinian monasteries. Its library was built during the monastery’s expansion in the 17th and 18th centuries, and features two levels of gorgeous wooden shelves with ornate decorations. The vaulted ceiling is painted with detailed frescoes, adding to its classical appeal.
The collection itself carries thousands of historic volumes on theology, history, science, and the humanities. Note that it is a private reference library for academic purposes only, but it can be viewed through guided tours.

Schloss Leopoldskron

This hotel is housed in an elegant Rococo palace on the shores of a small lake just outside Salzburg’s historic center. Built in 1736, it’s most famous as the filming location for the ballroom and lakeside scenes in The Sound of Music. It has a variety of beautiful lounges with elaborate detailing and decor.

Admont Abbey Library

I could honestly wax poetic about this gorgeous library forever. It’s arguably the most famous abbey library in the whole of Austria, and the actual largest monastic library in the world. Completed in 1776, the vast late-Baroque hall stretches nearly 70 meters with a bright white-and-gold interior that feels straight out of classical painting of the Gates of Heaven.

Replete with ornate sculptures and elaborate ceiling frescoes, the abbey houses around 70,000 volumes in the library itself and many more in its collections, including medieval manuscripts and rare books.

Vorau Abbey Library

Vorau Abbey holds a library that looks like it was pulled straight out of a painting. Wooden bookshelves crowned with golden and royal blue detailing, intricate patterned ceilings dotted with vivid frescoes, and a lush red carpet leading up to a double spiral staircase. Its collection consists of tens of thousands of volumes, including medieval manuscripts, early printed books, and important religious texts.

The library isn’t the only ornate room, either, with the chapel also being a masterclass in golden statues, marble pillars, and Biblical imagery made as grand as possible.
